What's the story behind the name "Charleston Gerbera?"
My birthday is on the eleventh day of November. So once the century turned over in 2000, it occured to me that in roughly 11 years, I would be having another birthday. On 11.11.11. (!!!!!!!)
What a great day to have a celebration! (And still so many years left to plan it!!!)
My wonderful husband did not disappoint. He surprised me by planning an entire weekend getaway to Charleston, SC that included my oldest and dearest friends.
Our 11.11.11 weekend together, was one that I will never forget. Especially since I created this painting called “Charleston Gerbera” to remind me of so many GOOD memories we made together.
As we all roamed about Charleston that weekend, I saw this sunny gerbera daisy growing directly next to the road down by the Charleston Battery which is located right on the waterfront. Despite its rather dicey location, I knew I needed to get a photograph of this happy, strong blossom.
My dear friend Kelli helped keep watch so that I was not run over by a car while taking the photo — as that would have been a rather tragic ending to an otherwise happy story.
I painted this happy, sun-lit flower, as a remembrance of our magical 11.11.11 weekend. This piece in particular, reminds me of so many layers of Goodness found in my life throughout the years.
