I planted some dahlia bulbs last winter in a plastic container and started them in my house. (I think that was actually a waste of time, but I'm not really sure.) They did survive, and grew to be quite tall over the course of the summer, but they didn't bloom until the fall.
Maybe it was just too hot for them this summer?? Maybe they didn't get enough sun??
Despite their delayed gratifications, I LOVE DAHLIAS! (How could you not?)
The glorious blooms were completely worth the wait, as well as the space they take up in the garden.
I love how intricate and dimensional they are. I wonder if anyone has every sculpted a dahlia with clay? That would be quite the challenge.
