This is a painting of Downtown Greenville, SC. It was inspired by a photo I took as I was standing outside (my then painting studio at) Art Crossing along the Reedy River near Falls Park.
The flowers were from my garden in Travelers Rest. It was October and the dahlias were blooming like crazy. I wanted to remind myself of the beautiful river view I enjoyed outside Art Cross, along with the bounty of my garden that year.
I started this painting in Greenville in November of 2011, and finished it at my studio/shop called Home Color in Travelers Rest in January of 2013. It hung over our piano for about a year with a big white spot that eventually became the flowers before picking up again and then finishing it 14 months later.
Just out of curiosity, I kept track of how long the dahlia heads took to paint. It took xx.x hours to complete those tricky blossoms, but well worth the time. (I will post the time time it took after my give-away contest is over. http://www.facebook.com/HomeColorShop )
